About Us
Warwickshire Hearts are a charity that provide Community First Responders to West Midlands Ambulance Service, attending 999 calls in the South Warwickshire area, including: Coventry, Kenilworth, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Stratford upon Avon, Gaydon, Kineton, Wellesbourne, Snitterfield, Long Marston, Illmington. What is a Community First Responder?
Community First Responders (or CFRs) are local volunteers, trained to provide life-saving treatment to patients in the vital first few minutes of an emergency until an ambulance crew arrives. When effective treatment is provided quickly, lives can be saved and disability reduced. This is especially true for heart attacks and medical conditions which have caused someone to lose consciousness. When a 999 call is received an ambulance response is dispatched. At the same time, a CFR on duty in the community is alerted/dispatched to attend the incident to ensure that help reaches the patient as quickly as possible, prior to an ambulance arriving. Our team come from a variety of backgrounds and include doctors, paramedics, engineers, academics, and more.CPR & AED (Defibrillator) Training
CFR schemes are also responsible for delivering Community CPR/Defibrillator training. We do this together with another local charity Evelyn's Gift.Read more hereEvent First Aid
As CFR schemes are not funded by West Midlands Ambulance Service, we raise funds by providing event medical services. We’ve covered events such as Stratford upon Avon River Festival, Warwick Town Cycle Race, Stratford upon Avon Food Festival.Read more here
training
Providing first aid training is one of our charitable objectives. We offer training sessions to community groups and organisations that teach the essential skills needed to perform CPR, use an AED/Defibrillator, place someone in the recovery position, and provide care for a patient until an ambulance arrives.Although we do not charge for these sessions, we are a charity and welcome donations both at the session and via PayPal. Without these donations, it becomes extremely challenging for us to provide the necessary resources for our team to attend 999 calls or organise community training sessions.
